With the 2nd XI rained off at home, the 1st XI travelled to Woodhall Spa to face the league leaders. In a weather affected game, Woodhall batted first and managed 150/1 in a reduced innings which eventually saw Sleaford requiring 174 from 25 overs due to DLS calculations. Kieran Harbron being the sole successful bowler in a bowling performance that was more notable for the 30 extras conceded including 23 wides! With the bat, Sleaford were in the hunt for long periods whilst Smith was attacking the bowling with gusto. However, when he was dismissed for 62 from 36 balls the fight appeared to fizzle out and despite 28 from 13 balls from Shorthouse the remaining wickets were surrendered meekly. Woodhall running out eventual winners by 12 runs. Notably, they only conceded 14 extras (9 wides). Food for thought?
The Sunday 2nd XI hosted Rustons. Batting first a competitive total of 203 was posted with 70 from Nel being the bedrock. George Hix batted well for his 38 and Ben Glendinning offered 29 at a run a ball. Comical highlight was the run out of Will in partnership with his father as both Glendinnings finished at the same end. Ian taking full advantage of father’s day as he refused to budge. The total was perhaps 30 light of what the team would have targeted at the midway point. With the ball our young attack was not at their best with no one really settling on a decent line and length. The batters were rarely troubled and were able to reach their target for the loss of 3 wickets and with 5 overs to spare.Will offering the highlight again in the fielding display taking a one handed ‘worldy’ at cover point.
