Just the 2 senior matches this weekend, with the fixture list continuing to baffle Sleaford supporters. The Saturday 1st XI hosted Bracebridge Heath and produced what is comfortably their most complete performance of the season. Opting to bat first, Sleaford were initially in some trouble at 51/4 before Patel (22) joined skipper Shorthouse in the middle to rebuild the innings with a partnership of 57. Wing (22) continued the rebuild in a further partnership of 82. On Wing’s dismissal Tite had some fun with a quickfire 45* cementing his claims on the no.8 spot. Meanwhile, Shorthouse was compiling a magnificent century and was finally dismissed in the 50th over for a quite brilliant 124 from just 105 balls, including 5 sixes. Sleaford posting an imposing 278/7. Bracebridge started positively with the bat in the face of some tight bowling. Lacking seamers, Shorthouse opted to take the new ball himself and broke the opening partnership at 44. Thereafter it was largely one-way traffic as Sleaford spinners turned the screw with club legend Mason Mansfield picking up a maiden ECB 5-fer with 5/22. Kieran Harbron picking up a couple and 1 each for Tite and Chessum. Bracebridge were eventually dismissed for 142 in the 34th over, giving Sleaford their 1st win against top seven opposition this season. They travel to Market Deeping next Saturday where a win could see them climb as high as 6th in the table.
Onto Sunday and the Women’s 1st XI hosted Spondon who could only muster 9 players. Their opponents opted to bat first on a warm day, but the Sleaford bowlers were soon in the wickets with the pacy and accurate Holly Vaughan (1/16) dismissing a Spondon opener with the 3rd ball of the match. They were soon reduced to 5/26 but a mini recovery saw them reach a small total of 72 before being dismissed in 22 overs. Millie Townend, sharing the new ball, taking 3/19, Evie Jarvis 3/12 and Daisy Schofield 1/21. With the bat, Holly enhanced her all-rounder credentials with a boundary laden 45 before Kiwi visitor Anna Cooper and Alexia Page-Graves knocked off the winning runs in just 7.2 overs.
