The 1st XI travelled to Nettleham looking for their first win of the season. Asked to bat first, Sleaford found themselves in some difficulty at 81-5, but overseas pro Daniel Smith with 86 found willing allies in the lower order in the shape Wing (21), D Harbron (42), Hall (19) and K Harbron (20) to post a respectable total of 256 all out in the 50th over. In response, Nettleham’s own overseas player, Zafar, batted superbly for 127 from just 88 deliveries, but he did not have the support needed from his teammates with only 1 other batter contributing in excess of 25. Zafar was last man out with the total on 210 giving Sleaford the win by 46 runs.
Burghley Park were the visitors to London Road to take on the 2nd XI. Opting to bowl first, Sleaford created numerous chances to restrict their opponents but on far too many occasions these chances were not taken. This ultimately allowed Burghley to post a creditable total of 211/6, recovering from 118/5. Tom Sanders with 3/32 being the pick of the bowlers. Burghley’s new ball pair were a handful for Sleaford who contributed to their own woes with an early run out. Roberts led the response and was looking the part until he was adjudged LBW for 28. From that point Sleaford never really got going again and some bad luck saw the innings limp to 115 all out in 31st over.
The Sunday 1st XI hosted North Scarle. Opting to bat first the opposition were in trouble throughout losing wickets at regular intervals and at 96/6 were looking likely to only post a mediocre total. A mini recovery saw them to 160 all out. The successful bowlers being Godby (1/15), Smith (2/11), Sneath (3/50) and J Henderson (4/33). Roberts continued his recent good form, leading the chase with 55, ably supported by Hutson with 42 in a partnership of 65 for the 3rd wicket. Sleaford reached their target for the loss of 5 wickets with an over to spare.
And finally, the Women’s 1st XI had a scheduled fixture, it wasn’t conceded, rained off or ruined by a car boot sale! Visiting Collingham & Newark, Sleaford were asked to bat first and scored 178/5 in their 35 overs, Evie Jarvis top scoring with 45, but boosted by around 50 extras. In reply, Sleaford took no prisoners as they dispatched their opponents for 74. Holly Vaughan taking 3 wickets in her 7 overs with 6 maidens! Special mention to Wendy Henry for an amazing catch at third man.
