The first full weekend of the season saw all four senior men’s teams in action. The 1st XI hosted Bourne at London Road and after losing the toss were asked to bat in tricky conditions. Mason Mansfield reached his first premier league half century in a partnership of 138 with skipper Shorthouse (87) for the 3rd wicket. Only one other batter made double figures in a creditable total of 210. However, this proved little challenge for a formidable Bourne batting line-up who chased the required runs in just 33.3 overs for the loss of only 3 wickets.
The 2’s visited Boston and after electing to field dismissed them for 149. Newly appointed captain Si Godby capturing 5/33 with 2 wickets for Goddard and 1 each for Glendinning and Lambert. In the chase wickets fell at regular intervals and at 89-6, Sleaford were staring down the barrel of a heavy defeat. However, veterans Sneath and Henderson took them close with a partnership of 49 before Sneath was dismissed in the last over, ultimately falling 12 runs short of victory.
Onto Sunday and a depleted 1st XI travelled to Bracebridge Heath. Their opponents batted first and put on 211 for the loss of 9 wickets in their 40 overs. Hibberd being the pick of the bowlers with 4-49. In reply, Sleaford knocked off the runs in relative ease to claim a 5 wicket victory with 4 overs to spare. Scott Tite putting forward an all-rounder claim with a club personal best of 74*.
The Sunday 2nd XI welcomed Bassingham. Opting to bowl first, Bassingham got off to a fast start putting 60 on for the first wicket, before Glendinning managed a couple of straight ones to capture 2 in 2, Unfortunately, his hat-trick attempt was not straight! Star with the ball was Charlie Foran playing his first senior match for the club, picking up 5 wickets on debut, ably supported by retiring veteran Ian Shorthouse with 3 wickets. Bassingham being dismissed for 142. Warren Nel returned to open the batting for Sleaford and crafted an excellent 98* in a comfortable chase for the loss of just 3 wickets with plenty of overs to spare.
