Sleaford 1st XI travelled to Nettleham on Saturday looking for a response following the disappointing loss at Lindum. Asked to bat first, Sleaford started positively with Patel and Conor Harbron (34) putting on 85 for the 1st wicket. Patel was second out for 63 as runs continued to flow. Cooper (49) and Shorthouse (38) put on a further 60 for the 3rd wicket and the team were well set for a sizeable total. Some late hitting by Wing (27)and Mansfield (13) saw the innings close at an imposing 263/7. With the ball Sleaford made early inroads and wickets continued to fall at regular intervals. Pick of the bowlers was Shorthouse with 4/21 with a wicket apiece for Hall, Tite and Drew Harbron, with Kieran taking 2/20. Nettleham finished 97 all out giving Sleaford a much needed 166 run win.

The 2nd XI were also on the road at Bourne. Winning the toss and electing to field, the bowlers were largely put to the sword, with only veteran Goddard managing to go for less than 6 an over. With Bourne racking up 322/8 in 45 overs, his figures of 1/17 from 9 overs are quite remarkable. Collings and Chessum took 2 wickets each with Glendinning capturing 3. To chase a total of this size, someone was going to have to go big. Unfortunately, the early loss of Godby and Sanders put a dent in the Sleaford hopes. However, Collings (52), Bean (65), Roberts (62) and Glendinng (52) gave it their best and 296/8 was a fabulous effort, losing by just 26 runs. Sleaford’s cause was not helped by 42 extras including 27 wides. A little more discipline with the ball may well have turned this loss into a victory.
The Sunday 1st XI hosted Grantham and were happy to win the toss and bat on a flat track in sweltering conditions. At 58/3 in the 11th over, things were not looking overly promising. What followed was a partnership of immense skill with some powerful hitting from both Drew Harbron and overseas professional Cooper. In 25 overs the pair put on 204 runs before Harbron was clean bowled for 88. Cooper went on to an undefeated 126 bringing up his 3 figures with one of the 6 sixes he smashed. With Collings providing quickfire support at the end, Sleaford amassed 307/4 in their 40 overs. This was always likely to be too many for Grantham and with Tite capturing 2 early wickets the task became immeasurably harder. Only Afzaal showed any real resistance being the last batter out for 64 as Grantham could only muster 155, giving Sleaford victory by 152 runs.
