Scunthorpe were the visitors to London Road on Saturday. Asked to bat first, Sleaford limped to 137 all out in 42.1 overs. Mansfield top scoring with 22 along with several cameos throughout the innings but nothing of any great substance. In reply, Sleaford’s seam attack took to the unlikely task of defending such a small total. At 69/5 in reply the game was in the balance, but an excellent knock of 75* from Khanduri displaying great patience and a reading of the game situation, saw Scunthorpe over the line for the loss of 7 wickets and with plenty of time to spare. Joe Pell with 3/38, Tite 1/25, Hall 2/26 and Harbron 1/15. Sleaford sit 9th in the table and must reverse this trend quickly if they are to have any hope of challenging for honours. Highlights from this fixture are now on YouTube.
The 2nd XI travelled to Moulton Harrox for what was likely to be their sternest test of the season so far. Bowling first Sleaford restricted their opponents to 153. Ollie Sneath taking 4/50 with Lambert snaffling 3/16 and a wicket for Glendinning. In reply, Tom Sanders again top scored with 46, but wickets kept falling and it was left to the last pair to secure the victory by a single wicket. Sleaford now sit atop the South Lincs & Border league.
On Sunday the 2nd XI took on Rustons hosted by Nocton CC. Batting first, the visitors posted a more than useful total of 229/7. This time Ollie Sneath displaying his all-round talents with a top score of 62. With the ball, our young attack set about the task in hand with early wickets. Josh Hinton capturing 3/20, ably assisted by Oscar Lond 2/10 Josh Nel 2/32, and Tom Sanders 1/0. All out for 106, giving them the win by 123 runs.
It seems the Women’s 1st XI are destined to not get started in 2024. This week their opponents called off as unable to raise a side. Let’s hope for some better news next week and keep your eyes on the clubs social media for an exciting announcement of a first for women’s cricket in Lincolnshire.
