Weekend Results 15th and 16th July

A damp weekend all round with the 1st XI off to Bracebridge Heath. A delayed start and subsequent break for rain saw a reduction in overs. Winning the toss and bowling first was always likely to be the case with one eye on DLS calculations. An early wicket for Tite was the sole success in the opening burst, with boundary opportunities served up regularly. The introduction of Drew in the 13th over saw an immediate reward with 2 wickets in his opening over. Heavy rain interrupted proceedings after just 19 overs with the score at 96/3. On the return, wickets fell regularly with Peck claiming 3 scalps and Drew getting another to take 3 of his own. The innings closed on 151/9, Sleaford having 35 overs to chase the runs. Things did not go smoothly to start as both openers were back in the pavilion with the score under 30. Shorthouse departed for 18 and with Sleaford at 51/3 the chase was in the balance, despite a healthy run rate. Left again to Cooper to rebuild the innings alongside Hibberd, the pair took the score to 120 before Hibberd was 4th out for a watchful 27. With near to 10 overs remaining there was still plenty of time to knock the required runs off, but Roberts and Cooper had other ideas and got past the finishing line with 5 overs to spare. Cooper reaching another undefeated half century and Roberts finishing on a run-a-ball 13. Sleaford now move back into 2nd spot in the table.

The 2nd XI faced Skegness 1st XI at London Road. Again, rain interrupted but without the DLS equation being available in the South Lincs & Border League. Sleaford were asked to bat and were well placed at 122/3 before a calamitous collapse saw the last 7 wickets fall for just 20 runs with the innings closing after 36.2 overs. Ollie Bean top scored with 42. This was never likely to be enough and despite not getting the best of luck with decisions Skegness comfortably knocked the runs off for the loss of just 1 wicket and with lots of time to spare.

The Sunday games were a virtual washout with both the 1st and 2nd XI’s on the road. 1’s at Lindum where the match was abandoned after 32.2 with Lindum on 136/6, Mansfield taking 3/26 from his 10 overs. The 2’s were at Old Lincolnians and on a ‘sporty’ pitch had fallen to 78/5 off 26.1 before time was called. The Women’s 1st XI were due to host Spondon but unfortunately the visitors were unable to raise a side and the match was conceded.
